CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION MARKED ITS 15th YEAR CUSTOMS DAY AND 1st STUDENTS-ALUMNI GET-TOGETHER



More than proud that the College of Customs Administration of the Lyceum of Iligan Foundation have reached 15 years since its opening to the public in SY1997-1998, “crystal” anniversary with “Student and Alumni Get-Together” as highlight was steered during its recognized Customs Day on February 16-17, 2013 with the theme “Lycean Customs – Gearing towards Competitiveness through Connectivity and Innovation”.

This year’s celebration of customs


day is different from the previous years because alumni were involved to the various activities on its entire two days events. First day had showcases academic competition such as quiz bowl, essay writing, extemporaneous speech, and logo making which was participated in by customs students and a sportsfest played between students and alumni. Second day was another sport activities and the highlight “Students and Alumni Social Night Get-Together” held at the Maria Cristina Hotel with Hon. Jamel Tabao Mamutuk, Presiding Judge of Branch 4 Municipal Trial Circuit of Iligan City as Guest Speaker who had emphasized on connectivity and innovation as a tools for becoming competitive.

Dean Abdullah R. Sirad noted in his opening remarks that ever since the Customs Administration’s birth at LIF till quite recent time, the college of customs administration managed to withstand many ups and downs, persevered and survived from the challenges of the times. Number of BOARD PASSERS made the college a survivor! Presently, only the Lyceum of Iligan Foundation offered a degree in Customs Administration in the Southern part of Mindanao.
 
Alumni batch representatives have also delivered their messages and shared the whereabouts of their batchmates. The alumni, through their elected set of officers, anvil their plans of setting a regular homecoming every five years and pledged to assist the college of customs administration.  

Meanwhile, Prof. Ray Vincent E. Arana, Director for Academic Affairs shared a message on behalf of the Administration.  The celebration also served as the department’s Recognition in which winners for various events were awarded and students who excel in both curricular and non-curricular during the current school year were recognized. CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION ELECTS ITS SET OF ALUMNI OFFICERS

The new set of officers of the College of Customs Administration Alumni Association (CCAAA) for academic year 2013-2015 took their Oath of Office during the College of Customs Get-Together Social Night ceremony held on February 17, 2013 at Maria Cristina Hotel, Iligan City. Prof. Florentina M. Bolodo, Head of Student Affairs and Services inducted the officers as they swore to abide and uphold their duties and responsibilities as officers of the Lyceum of Iligan Foundation College of Customs Administration Alumni Association (LIF-CCAAA).


Among those who were sworn into office are Sultan Amenodin Pangarungan (President), CB Jabbar D. Usman (VP Internal), CB Gani L. Buat (VP External), Mr. Jeffrey P. Manaytay (Secretary General), CB Soraya A. Liwalug (Treasurer), Ms. Norhaifa Marohomsalic (Auditor), and the batch representatives: Mr. Norodin Polangi (Batch 2004), Ms. Girlie Libago (Batch 2005), Mr. Amenodin Sarip (Batch 2006), Mr. Mohammad Balt (Batch 2008), CB Nasim Esmail (Batch 2010), CB Jabbar D. Usman (Batch 2011), and CB Johnaid Marandang (Batch 2012).    

The set of officers of the Lyceum of Iligan Foundation College of Customs Administration Alumni Association (LIF-CCAAA) shall serve a term of five years.

Customs Administration Held Seminar Workshop on Republic Act No. 10351

The recent implementation of new excise tax computation under RA No. 10351 as implemented by BIR RR No. 17-2012 is a vital subject areas which our students and customs practitioners needs to be updated with considering that this reform program of the government brought larger responsibilities among customs stakeholders to which understanding its fundamental principles is indispensable.

As we are committed to bring updated information to our stakeholders, specifically to our students who would be affected as this law shall take part of their licensure examination in October 2013, the College of Customs Administration held a workshop seminar on RA No. 10351 as implemented by the Bureau of Internal Revenue Regulation No. 17-2012 on February 1, 2013 in Lyceum of Iligan Foundation’s AVR. A caliber speaker who has enormous experience (to the subject matter) to impart was sourced out in the person of Dr. Jesus G. Llorando, Port of Manila Customs Examiner/Appraiser and Executive Director of the Llave Review and Training Center.


 The said seminar comprehensively illustrates the changes of the excise tax rates and methods of assessment for imported alcohol products (e.g. distilled spirits, wines, and liquors), tobacco products, cigars and cigarettes. Customs procedure under e2m (electronic to mobile) Philippine National Single Window (PNSW) was also discussed.

Meanwhile, CB Abdullah R. Sirad – Dean of Customs Administration, formally opens the program with prof. Ray Vincent E. Arana, Director for Academic Affairs who shared his valuable words of wisdom to all participants. Customs Brokers and Customs Students attended the said seminar. Mr. Jabbar D. Usman, Faculty, finally closed the program.
